<p>On September 23, 2005, in Yakutsk was officially opened on the northernmost mosque in Russia. The ceremony was attended by leaders of the Muslim Ummah of the country and representatives of the government of the Republic of Sakha and the city. Currently on the territory of the Republic lives more than 120 thousand Muslims representing about 30 Nations. Traditionally profess Islam and there are Muslim religious institutions in the cities of Yakutsk, Mirny, Neryungri, the village of Lower Bestyakh, Megino-Kangalassky and Batagay Verkhoyansk ulus. By the number of its followers to Islam in Yakutia occupies the third place after supporters of Orthodoxy and traditional Yakut beliefs.</p>
