20 March 1915 opening ceremony of the Nizhny Novgorod Cathedral mosque. It was the second mosque within the boundaries of the modern city of Nizhny Novgorod (after Fair, now defunct). Started functioning in 1915, it was closed in 1938 in the Soviet period, changing at the time the former look of the Islamic community center of Nizhny Novgorod. Now, however, revived in 1991, Nizhny Novgorod Cathedral mosque acts as the spiritual center of Muslims of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
